배수봉 작가는 ‘시간’을 사유하고 시각화하는 작가다.
배수봉 작가는 시간을 조형하는 작가라고 표현할 수 있다. 배수봉 작가에게 ‘시간’은 작업의 중요한 모티브다. 때문인지 그의 캔버스에는 시간을 대변하는 묘사가 흥건하다. 작가 특유의 우직한 성품으로 빚어낸 느린 템포의 흔적들이라고 할 수 있다.
화면에 표상화된 균일한 바탕은 오래된 비문, 바위의 질감, 땅 바닥의 마모되고 풍화된 표면을 회화적인 테크닉을 바탕으로 리얼리티화 하고, 오랜 시간 동안 자연의 가혹한 시련을 견뎌온 이러한 표면의 인상들을 화면에 적극적으로 끌어들여 “시간의 결”이라는 그림으로 태어난다.
작품의 특징은 시간의 연속성을 나타내기 위해 묵직하게 시간의 흐름을 견디어 온 바위의 표면에 유한하게 짧은 생을 살다가는 곤충, 물고기, 꽃 등을 배치하며 대비시켜 표현한다는 것이다. 이를 통해 현존하지 않지만 실존했던 찰나를 기억하게 하고, 한편으로는 모든 것을 기억하고 쌓아두는 축적된 시간의 모습을 형태화하여 보존하려는 작가의 생각을 엿볼 수 있겠다.

Artist Bae can be expressed as a painter who shapes time. For Bae Su-bong, 'time' is an important motif in his work. Perhaps because of this, his canvas is full of descriptions representing time. It can be said that he is traces of a slow tempo created by the his unique and honest character. The uniform background represented on the canvas is created as a "The texture of time" by realizing rock textures, worn and weathered surfaces of the ground based on pictorial techniques, and actively drawing these surface impressions that have endured nature's harsh trials for a long time.
The characteristic of the artwork is that insects, fish, and flowers are juxtaposed to live a finite short life on the surface of the rock that has endured the heavy flow of time to show the continuity of time.
Through this, we can see the artist's idea of remembering moments that do not live but existed, and on the other hand, we can see the artist's idea of preserving by forming the accumulated image of time that we remember and accumulate everything.
