조각과 회화, 추상과 구상을 경계를 넘나드는 명윤아 작가
1982년생인 명윤아는 성신여대와 홍익대학교 대학원에서 조각을 전공했다.
하지만 지금의 작업은 조각과 회화 사이의 형식으로 존재하며 대중들에게 ‘생소한 조각’으로 다가가고 있다. 작가는 현대미술 이후의 새로운 조각 탐구에 몰두하며 대중들에게 기존 틀을 벗어나 새롭게 변화할 수 있는 조각의 가능성을 보여주려고 노력한다.
작가는 조각이라는 매체를 재해석해 그 영역의 확대를 시도하기 위해 오랫동안 새로운 재료인 합성수지에대해 탐구해왔다. 재료 특유의 끈끈한 물성을 활용한 조각의 형태만으로도 명윤아 작가의 아이덴티티는 확실하다. 현재 작업은 크게 ‘평면 조각’과 ‘부조페인팅’으로 구분되는데, 평면조각 시리즈는 공간 조각을 축소 실험한 형태이고, ‘부조페인팅’은 추상 조각과 구상 회화의 융합을 시도한 복합장르로 명윤아 작가만의 독자적인 조형 방식을 구축하고 있다고 할 수 있다.

Myung Yoon-a majored in sculpture. However, today's work exists in the form of sculpture and painting and is approaching the public as an "unfamiliar sculpture." The artist is immersed in the exploration of new sculptures after modern art and tries to show the public the possibility of sculptures that can be changed beyond the existing framework.
The current work is largely divided into 'abstract art' and ‘semi-figurative art'. The artist has long explored new sculptural materials(Mixed resin) to reinterpret the medium of sculpture and attempt to expand its domain. In addition, it is building its own formative method by creating "planar sculpture" that reduced spatial sculpture and "relief painting," a complex genre that attempted to fuse abstract sculpture and figurative painting.
